Proto-Seuss

Before Dr. Seuss was Dr. Seuss, he was just another guy working for the Man, waiting for his chance to slip away from the herd and track his own path. Theodore Geisel did a number of product advertisements in the 1920's and 1930's before finding fame as a children's book author. The Dr. Seuss Collection, housed at the Mandeville Special Collections Library at the University of California, San Diego, contains many examples of Dr. Seuss's advertising artwork and has kindly scanned a selection of these advertisements for our enjoyment. "Quick, Henry, the Flit!" will take you there.
